Adam Schefter, Adam Peters and Dan Quinn are not preaching the same message.
The Washington Commanders’ general manager and head coach said last week that they had no plans for quarterback Jayden Daniels to have surgery or go on the injured reserve list. Quinn said on Monday that Daniels would practice with the team this week.
Commanders QB Jayden Daniels avoided surgery on his dislocated left elbow for now, but it still is very much in play for after this season.

Schefter said Tuesday that it sounded to him like Daniels does need surgery. Schefter added that Daniels will attempt to play the remainder of the 2026 season once he returns to action. But Schefter sounded like Daniels knows
he needs surgery on that left elbow. Schefter insisted Daniels might want to compete with his teammates this season, but he knows he needs offseason surgery.
Schefter said he does not think Daniels will play this Sunday in London against the Indianapolis Colts. He does feel Daniels is hoping to put off the surgery until the end of the season, if he can play the rest of the season for the Commanders.
Another possibility is that Peters and Quinn are aware Daniels may have been advised to have surgery after the season. We do know Quinn said Monday that there has been a process and medical counsel provided, and he is following that process.
Another possibility is that Daniels has been advised that, if the elbow continues to bother him during the season, or if another event occurs, he should have surgery. However, notice, Schefter did not express an option. He simply stated it as if it is a matter of fact that Daniels will have surgery after the conclusion of this 2026 season.
For now, remember the issue is Daniels’ non-throwing left elbow. Second, he will wear a brace, but that doesn’t guarantee he won’t re-injure it.
