The Washington Commanders were busy on Wednesday. In some good news, the Commanders opened the 21-day practice windows for three players on injured reserve: cornerback Trey Amos, defensive lineman Deatrich Wise and running back Jeremy McNichols. Washington now has 21 days to either activate them or they revert to season-ending injured reserve.
The Commanders lost two players from their practice squad this week when the Seahawks signed running back Robert Henry Jr., and the Steelers signed cornerback Terell Smith. On Wednesday, Washington replaced those spotswith outside linebacker T.J. Maguranyanga and safety Darren Hall.
General manager Adam Peters wasn’t done. Washington also signed wide receiver Nick DeGennaro to the practice squad. The 6-foot-0,
196-pound DeGennaro signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent after the 2026 NFL Draft. New England released him during its final cuts in August.
DeGennaro began his college career at Maryland, where he played two seasons. He was a teammate of Washington tight end Chig Okonkwo and safety Nick Cross. In 2022, he transferred to Richmond, where he played for three seasons. DeGennaro transferred to James Madison in 2025, where he caught five touchdowns for a Dukes team that made the College Football Playoff.
To make room for DeGennaro, the Commanders released undrafted rookie defensive tackle Jeffrey M’Ba from the practice squad.
DeGennaro joins veteran Van Jefferson and impressive rookie Jaden Bradley as receivers on Washington’s practice squad. The Commanders had seven receivers on the 53-man roster, but recently lost Jaylin Lane for the season with an ankle injury.
