The Washington Commanders are reportedly changing their look again in 2027. Zach Cohen, who has broken numerous stories on uniform and logo changes, including with the Commanders, reported Saturday that Washington hopes to make its current alternate logo its permanent primary logo.
The current ‘Hail Raisers,’ the new black alternates the Commanders haven’t worn yet but will wear in Weeks 11 and 15, will have the current ‘W’ logo on the helmet with a spear going through it. The Commanders currently have the 'W' logo without the spear as their primary logo and have had it since 2022, when the franchise rebranded from the ‘Football Team’ to the Commanders.
Earlier this year, Washington changed its uniforms from the 2022 rebranded Commanders’ uniforms to the current
Super Bowl-era uniforms. Cohen was the first to report those changes months before they became official. The now-permanent Super Bowl uniforms have been a hit with fans, new and old.
Commanders owner Josh Harris is in London with the rest of the team for Sunday’s game with the Indianapolis Colts. He joined several Washington fans at a pep rally, bought them drinks, and spoke to some of the Commanders’ local media in town for the game. Harris even discussed the spear.
“Yeah, obviously, everyone is enjoying what we’re doing; we’re embracing the past as much as we can in a respectful way,” Harris told Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic on Saturday.
Then, Harris was asked specifically about the spear.
“I like the spear. What can I say?” Harris said. “It brings everything together a little bit. It brings the special forces and the Native Americans and the Roman Gladiators, so I like the spear.”

And that logo is a familiar one: the team’s new alternate W logo with a spear running through it, unveiled in April with their new black “Hail Raiser” uniform

Harris didn’t confirm anything, but he can’t at this time.
When Harris says he’s embracing the past, he’s delivered on every promise since buying the team with his partners in July 2023. The Commanders’ fan base has welcomed every change.
