Washington general manager Adam Peters made it clear that he likes the Commanders roster.
Peters appeared at the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse on Thursday night with 106.7 The Fanโs Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier. Unlike a 15-minute radio segment, Peters was there and available for Paulsen and Rouhier to question and follow up with additional questions.

When asked about their current roster, Peters didnโt flinch, telling the co-hosts he is very pleased with the 2026 roster compared to
his previous two seasons. Now, before the fan base gets too excited, have you ever seen an NFL general manager, just prior to the NFL Week 1 season opener, come out and rip his roster? Of course not. Now, that is not to say Washington doesnโt have a good roster; itโs just talk nearly every general manager makes before the season opener.
When Paulsen and Rouhier poked fun a couple of times about the poor drafts led by Ron Rivera, Peters kept his composure, never wavering and refusing to go down that rabbit trail. Peters did not bite, did not take the bait, and did not spend time bashing the former Washington head coach and GM.
Rouhier told his radio audience Friday that Peters was clearly sincere and confident Thursday that the current roster is much stronger than the 2025 roster. Though Peters knows what others are saying about the Commanders, predicting them to be a lower-tier NFC team, Peters believes this Commanders team is going to surprise more than a few NFL analysts.
When asked why Washington has legitimate salary cap space each year, Peters told fans he is already looking at some of the bigger extensions the Commanders are going to make. Did you notice Peters didnโt simply say โextension,โ as in Jayden Daniels, but โextensions,โ plural?
Daron Payne is in the final year of his contract, but I canโt imagine they would be that interested in another long contract with high-paying years for someone who has underperformed as much as Payne has.
It was a nice change for the organization to have its general manager show up, make himself available to the fan base, and take questions. Perhaps it illustrates the many changes brought about by the change in the organizationโs actual ownership.
