Two veteran Washington Commanders are trying to produce despite injuries.
Offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil and defensive end Deatrich Wise can’t play or contribute on the field for the Washington Commanders right now. However, both have offered to provide leadership in other ways, and head coach Dan Quinn certainly appreciates their attitude.
“I saw them in a meeting last week, and I just thought it was significant to see both of them. I want the team to know how much they appreciate it. When you are detached, it can feel like you are away from all of it. Laremy in particular has such a good connection with Josh (Conerly). Checking in, seeing where everything is. That’s a big deal.

Deatrich has been incredible in his rehab for a year. That’s how significant the injury was. I believe it happened on 9/11 in Green Bay. So that’s a long time; that’s hard. Knowing that the light is getting to the end of the tunnel, he is the same guy he was six months ago, when there wasn’t as much light.
I thought for the trainers and them to say, ‘Man, we enjoy being around this person every day. He brings a lot of life to people and belief. And we’re excited he’s getting closer into that space. It’s significant when they want to be part of things in that way. It's certainly not required, but it does add a lot of value.”
It’s been said that leadership is not merely talking about the good things, but doing the right things. It sounds like Tunsil and Wise are contributing in whatever ways they can, though they aren’t getting to play.
