This is now the second time Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has injured his left elbow, going back to last season. While he missed significant time last year, there are questions about whether or not Daniels will opt for surgery given his injury history of dislocating his left elbow.
During ESPN’s NFL Live show on Monday, Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner expressed his belief that Daniels should play through this injury without it affecting his throwing by wearing a brace. Warner emphasized the importance of the fact that this is his left elbow and he is right-handed.
“Only thing I would say is I suffered the same injury back in ‘07, and I played the next week. I braced it up,” Warner said. “Obviously, a couple shots along
the way. I had to hand the football off with my right hand in both directions. But, this to me because it’s a left arm, if he wants to play through that and get back out there and help his team, I believe he can. It’s not going to be one of those things that affects the throwing part of things. Does it affect his movement? Does it affect him running or some of the things they want to do by design? Maybe. But I do believe this is something that he can come back from, and because it’s a left arm.”
Daniels tried this approach last season, aggravated the elbow, and missed the rest of the season. However, initial indications are that Daniels does not want to have the surgery, and Marcus Mariota has already been named the starting quarterback for Washington’s next game against the Seattle Seahawks.
