wide receiver Terry McLaurin has played with many quarterbacks since entering the NFL in 2019. This is McLaurin’s eighth NFL season — all in Washington — and he has played with 14 different starting quarterbacks. While the Commanders finally found their franchise quarterback in 2024 with Jayden Daniels, perhaps the most fun quarterback McLaurin ever played with was Taylor Heinicke.Heinicke, who retired earlier this year, returned to Northwest Stadium on Sunday for the Commanders’ Week 3 game against the Seattle Seahawks. He was seen at different tailgates before the game, taking pictures with fans. He also made his way down to the field, where he reunited with McLaurin.

What a cool moment.
Heinicke and McLaurin were close during the quarterback’s three seasons in Washington — two full seasons and part of another. No one will ever forget Heinicke’s game-winning throw to McLaurin to beat the Indianapolis Colts in 2022. That's when the "F--- it, Terry down there somewhere" phrase was born, which led to a viral T-shirt.
After bouncing in and out of the NFL for a few years, the undersized former undrafted quarterback from Old Dominion landed with Washington in December 2020 as an emergency quarterback because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He would end up starting the Commanders’ wild-card game against the eventual Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers that January. He played well, passing for 301 yards and a touchdown, and rushing for 46 yards and another touchdown, and earned a two-year contract from Washington.
Over the next two seasons, Heinicke would start 24 games for the Commanders, going 12-11-1 as a starting quarterback. He was arguably Washington’s most successful quarterback between Kirk Cousins and Jayden Daniels, although Alex Smith had some positive moments, too.
Perhaps Heinicke brought some good luck, as the Commanders upset the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks 33-31 behind backup quarterback Marcus Mariota.
