The Washington Commanders open their 2026 campaign on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.
If you have any Commanders players on your fantasy football team, who should you be starting this week, and who should you be sitting?
Let’s take a look.
Start ‘em: QB Jayden Daniels
Daniels is set to play his first snap since Week 14 of the 2025 season against the Minnesota Vikings after re-injuring his left elbow that he originally injured against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 9.
The third-year signal caller and 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year will be back in action with a handful of weapons at receiver, including veteran Terry McLaurin and newly signed Stefon Diggs rookie Antonio Williams.
On top of Daniels' retooled arsenal of pass-catchers, the
former Heisman Trophy winner averaged 39.7 rushing yards per game last season, threw for two touchdowns, and continues to prove himself as a dangerous dual-threat quarterback.
While it is only Week 1, Daniels and Washington take on a divisional opponent, and the team that emerges victorious will earn an early edge in the NFC East. So Daniels will need to be at his best.
Sit ‘em: WR Stefon Diggs
While Diggs signed with the Commanders on August 7, just over a month out from Washington’s season opener, the 12th-year receiver may need some time to adjust to his fourth team in as many years.
With that being said, Diggs has still been a productive wideout with the Houston Texans and New England Patriots the past two seasons, totaling 132 receptions for 1,509 yards and seven touchdowns. However, his first touchdown with the Patriots didn't come until the end of October 2025.
He will also be competing for targets with McLaurin, Williams, and likely a combination of Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown and Luke McCaffrey at receiver. But on a one-year contract and slotted as Washington’s WR2, Diggs will be hungry to prove his spot in the Commanders' offense.
