The Washington Commanders are facing mounting injury concerns ahead of their Week 5 game against the New York Giants. While quarterback Jayden Daniels will be back, one of his top receivers, Stefon Diggs is out, while Terry McLaurin is questionable.
“Stef Diggs will be out,” head coach Dan Quinn said. “And Terry I thought looked really good today, so we’ll decide as we get closer to the game.”
This is a big blow for the Commanders, who had to place wide receiver Jaylin Lane on season-ending injured reserve earlier this week following a dislocated ankle injury against the Indianapolis Colts in London. If McLaurin cannot play, their only starting receiver available will be rookie Antonio Williams out of Clemson. Luke McCaffrey, Treylon Burks and Dyami
Brown will also have to step up.
With Hurricane Isaias bearing down on the East Coast, Washington, D.C. is expected to have significant rain during the game, which could cause hazardous playing field conditions. When asked if that would impact whether or not McLaurin plays against the Giants, Quinn said that it will not.
“Yeah, right now it doesn’t,” Quinn said. “Going through just everything for practice and getting back to it, but it’s not something right now that is under evaluation for that.”
Washington has to submit the list of final inactive players 90 minutes before kickoff, so Commanders fans will probably have to wait until then to find out whether or not McLaurin will be playing in this game.
