After the Washington Commanders’ regression last season, ESPN’s Ben Solak seems to think the Commanders are back on the rise, according to his most recent watchability rankings, where he ranked Washington No. 13 overall. Here is what he had to say:
“The Commanders were my most watchable team entering 2025 off Jayden Daniels' uproarious Offensive Rookie of the Year season, penchant for close games (they won on multiple Hail Mary plays, remember) and a high pace of play that made for a lot more football. Of course, I didn't calculate absolutely everyone getting hurt -- but that's on me.
Daniels was must-see television in 2024 and, in a new offense, should get back to that form in 2026. No quarterback scrambles more often than Daniels (16.0% last
season). The new defensive approach under coordinator Daronte Jones, hired from the Brian Flores tree, should be aggressive and creative. So, we should see more big plays for the defense and the offense. Plus, with head coach Dan Quinn starting the season on the hot seat, the stakes should be high in early-season games.”
Nobody could have predicted what happened to the Washington Commanders last season, especially after they had just been in the NFC Championship. Quarterback Jayden Daniels remains must-see television when he is healthy; his problem last season was just staying healthy. He has a duo of talented receivers to throw to - Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs. Washington also has a reliable running back in Jacory Croskey-Merritt. Its defense also has high upside that could get them into the postseason.
It seems a little unlikely they will find themselves back in the NFC Championship this season, but it is certainly possible the Commanders will turn out to be one of the more entertaining teams to watch in the NFL this season.
