After a week off, the Washington Commanders (1-4-1) are back in action. It’s the second consecutive prime-time game for Washington, as it hosts NFC East rival, the Philadelphia Eagles (2-5), in the Week 8 edition of Sunday Night Football.
It’s been a tough year for Washington. Injuries have again contributed to the Commanders’ struggles. In the Week 6 loss at San Francisco, wide receiver Terry McLaurin injured his knee and was lost for the season. During Friday’s practice, longtime starting defensive tackle Daron Payne suffered a fracture in his foot and is also out for the remainder of the season.
Fortunately for the Commanders, quarterback Jayden Daniels is back and healthy. He’s played well in his last two starts since returning from a left
elbow injury. Unfortunately for the Eagles, their quarterback, Jalen Hurts, will miss the rest of the season due to blood clots. Longtime right tackle Lane Johnson retired during the season, and Philadelphia is dealing with numerous other injuries.
Both teams need a win. The Eagles have lost five straight after starting the season 2-0, while the Commanders’ only win came in Week 3.
