The Washington Commanders revealed their first inactive list of the 2026 season on Sunday, featuring a couple of surprises. The Commanders, who play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET, named only five players inactive.
- WR Luke McCaffrey
- WR Treylon Burks
- QB Athan Kaliakmanis
- DT Ricky Barber Jr.
- G Tanoa Togiai
With McCaffrey and Burks active, Washington will have five receivers for today’s game. That’s not a surprise. However, McCaffrey served as the Commanders’ primary kick returner in 2025, averaging almost 30 yards per return until he went down with a broken collarbone in Week 9. Who will take his place as Washington’s kick returner? Fellow receiver — and punt returner — Jaylin Lane makes the most sense.
Burks’ inactivity may be even more surprising. The 6-foot-2 former Titans’ first-round pick gives Washington some
size at receiver. His inactivity could have more to do with the Commanders wanting to keep one more at another position against Philadelphia.
The Commanders will have Terry McLaurin, Stefon Diggs, Antonio Williams, Lane and Dyami Brown as their five receivers against the Eagles.
It will be interesting to watch moving forward.
