Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn began Saturday's training camp with some injury news. Tight end John Bates suffered a strained hamstring during Thursday's practice. Quinn said the injury would probably keep Bates sidelined for a "couple of weeks."
Bates, 28, is entering his sixth NFL season. He's only missed three career games and is widely considered one of the NFL's best blocking tight ends. Fortunately for the Commanders, they have excellent tight end depth with Chig Okonkwo, Ben Sinnott, Colson Yankoff and Lawrence Cager.
While the news about Bates is disappointing for Washington, there was some good news. Wide receiver Treylon Burks, who experienced foot soreness on Wednesday, forcing him to miss Thursday's practice, was back on the field

What about projected starting center Nick Allegretti? Quinn said Allegretti is dealing with a calf injury and that he'd be out about a week. In his place, Julian Good-Jones and rookie Matt Gulbin are getting more work. Allegretti left Day 1 of camp with trainers and hasn't been on the field since.
