The Washington Commanders are getting their star quarterback, Jayden Daniels, back after missing just two weeks with a dislocated elbow. He'll wear a brace in Washington’s Week 5 game against the New York Giants and needs his offensive line to protect him from big hits.
“It feels great to have him back out there and get him moving around,” right tackle Josh Conerly Jr. said. “That’s our number one priority is [to] make sure that we protect him, keep him upright.”
Luckily for Daniels, the Giants have the fewest sacks in the NFL, with just three through four games. However, last time Daniels faced New York, in the 2025 season opener, the Giants sacked him three times. With his injury and Marcus Mariota out for this game, the Commanders cannot afford
to let Daniels get hit that many times.
Washington has only one win so far this season, against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3. Two of their losses were against division opponents, putting the Commanders in a hole early. With Washington sitting in last in the division and the Giants first with a 3-1 overall record and 1-0 record in the NFC East. While Conerly said the Commanders won't treat this game differently, they know the stakes are a little higher because it is a division matchup.
“I feel like we treat every game like we want to win the game. It doesn’t really matter if it’s division or not,” Conerly said. “But there is a little bit more emphasis on it because it is in the division. But we have to go out there and just try and go get a W.”
