The Washington Commanders are fully healthy heading into the Week 1 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Commanders revealed their final injury report on Friday, and everyone will play, including starting edge rushers Odafe Oweh and K’Lavon Chaisson.
The Eagles, however, will be without their top offseason acquisition. Edge rusher Jonathan Greenard will miss Sunday’s game against Washington due to a pec injury. Greenard suffered a pec strain just before Philadelphia began training camp in July. He missed all of training camp and the preseason, but has been working his way back.
There was hope that he could play in Week 1, as the Eagles chose not to place Greenard on the Reserve/PUP, meaning they expect him back sometimes in the first four
games.
“I’m literally just trying to work day by day,” Greenard said Thursday, via Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
“Like, I literally am out there every second trying to just show what I can do. And that’s tough for them (to make a decision), but I feel pretty solid. … It’s not for me to decide. I feel good, though. I will say I feel I’m in a good spot. I know that I’m working every day to continue to try to get this thing stronger. We’re close. I know that.”
Greenard, 29, began his career as a third-round pick of the Houston Texans. After four seasons in Houston, Greenard signed a four-year, $76 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings. In his first year for the Vikings in 2024, Greenard had 12 sacks and made the Pro Bowl. In 2025, Greenard dealt with a shoulder injury, which forced him to miss five games, and he finished with three sacks.
In Greenard’s absence, Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith served as Philadelphia’s starting edge rushers throughout training camp, with A.J. Epenesa and Arnold Ebiketie providing depth.
Brandon Coleman will start at left tackle for Washington, a position he held in 2024. With Laremy Tunsil out for the season, the Commanders moved Coleman back to left tackle in place of Tunsil.
