What is the story about?
Sunday
at 6 p.m. ET was the deadline for all 32 NFL teams to reduce their rosters to 53.
Sunday, the Washington Commanders released 16 offensive players. Here are those released and a quick reason why.
Commanders released 16 offensive players
- C/G Julian Good-Jones: The player wanted most by local fans and media to be released.
- WR Jaden Bradley: Had the best catch of the preseason. Almost blocked two punts. Might have an NFL future.
- WR Van Jefferson: Jefferson is a better route runner, but Luke McCaffrey won out because he returns kicks well.
- TE Lawrence Cager: Has athletic ability, but the team can keep only so many tight ends.
- G/T Daniel Brunskill: Was brought in late; didn’t impress; turns 33 in January.
- QB Sam Hartman: Clearly behind Kaliakmanis; has been very supportive/helpful to Jayden Daniels.
- RB Robert Henry Jr.: Explosive potential, but he has revealed he has some fumbling issues.
- C Trey Hill: GM Adam Peters thought the former Georgia Bulldog would be an answer...he wasn’t.
- WR Jacoby Jones: They like his potential and size, but how could they keep him over any receiver they kept?
- TE Tre’ McKitty: Was there ever a chance McKitty was going to be one of the four Washington tight ends?
- TE Quentin Moore: The Commanders have four solid tight ends they kept on their roster.
- WR Nick Nash: Had a nice long reception vs Lions, but receiver room simply too crowded.
- T Nicholas Petit-Frere: Frankly was very unimpressive, appearing often a step too slow.
- RB Craig Reynolds: Brought in just last week; don’t rule him out; he can play in the NFL.
- G Max Scharping: A veteran of 81 NFL games, but he didn’t impress in camp.
- T Trent Scott: The eight-year veteran was disappointing in the preseason, but could return to practice squad.
