The 2026 NFL regular season is less than two weeks away, and while all 32 NFL teams are currently trying to figure out which players to keep and which players to let go ahead of the August 30 deadline, we're going to take a small break from current events and look to the future.
ESPN's Jordan Reid recently released his second 2027 mock draft. The Commanders are slated to pick 10th overall in his draft order, and despite how packed their wide receiver room already is, Reid thinks they’ll add to it.
Charlie Becker, WR, Indiana*
Even though Stefon Diggs just signed with Washington, he'll be 33 years old and it's unclear if he'll be the Commanders' WR2 past this season. There's still a need for help opposite Terry McLaurin, and the 6-foot-4, 207-pound
Becker was the player I enjoyed studying the most this offseason. He exploded on the scene last November and was the X factor in Indiana's run to the national title, averaging 19.9 yards per reception (seventh in the FBS). Becker combines deep speed with elite ball tracking and excellent hand-eye coordination. His skill set would perfectly complement Jayden Daniels' deep-ball proficiency.
The asterisk after Becker’s name is there because he’s an underclassman. We don’t even know if he’ll declare for the draft, but if Indiana looks anything like they did last season, it’s possible.
Now, the Commanders already have a solid group of young wide receivers, and only a few of them have expiring contracts at the end of 2026. Those set to hit free agency next March include Stefon Diggs, Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown, Lawrence Cager, Nick Nash, Jacoby Jones, and Van Jefferson.
That doesn’t mean the Commanders won’t select a wide receiver in the first round of the draft next year, but by the time that comes, they may find a bigger need to fill. Reid’s prediction is based on how he views each team now, so understand that all of this will change a million times before the actual 2027 NFL Draft next April.
