Will the Washington Commanders be sellers at the trade deadline?
Or will they simply stay put and play out the season as is?
Here’s the deal: the Commanders began their bye week Tuesday, so they won’t play the weekend of October 25. The Commanders have two weeks left to play before the Tuesday, November 10, 2026 NFL Trade Deadline.
Washington is currently at the bottom of the impotent NFC East, 1-4-1. But the Eagles and Cowboys are both 2-4. Only the New York Giants don’t have a losing record in the division, sitting at 3-2-1. With the Eagles facing so many injuries, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Philadelphia trade away some veterans, allowing the Eagles to keep piling up draft picks for the team’s future.

Of course, we at Commanders Wire would love to see the Commanders turn their season around, win the NFC East, and host a playoff game in January. Coming out of the bye, the Commanders will have two home games, hosting the Eagles and Rams. It’s possible, yes, the Commanders could win both games, improving their record to 3-4-1 days before the trade deadline.
But we must be realistic. This 2026 team hasn’t been good this season so far. If the Commanders lose to the Eagles and Rams and fall to 1-6-1, GM Adam Peters needs to seriously consider what he can get for some of his veterans. For example, DL Daron Payne will be a free agent in 2027. Would Peters trade Payne for a Day 3 pick?
Briefly, who are some other veterans who become free agents in 2027? LB Frankie Luvu, edge rushers Dorance Armstrong and K’Lavon Chaisson are the first names that come to mind. A contender could want to add one of these players and be willing to part with a Day 3 draft pick.
But first, let’s enjoy a bye week, shall we?
