Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels shouldn’t even bother to show up for Sunday’s Week 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. That’s what one Philadelphia podcaster thinks anyway. In fact, this podcaster believes Daniels should call out sick.
“Jayden Daniels should call out sick,” said Miles Johnson of the “Real Talk with MJ” podcast.
Johnson then explains this bizarre take.
“He should call out for Week 1. Because he’s going to be up against Jalen Carter, that just got 160 million dollars. Jordan Davis, who just became a captain for the first time in his career. And Moro Ojomo, who is going to get paid this offseason. And I didn’t even mention Nolan Smith. I didn’t even mention Jalyx Hunt. If Jonathan Greenard plays Week 1, bro, call out sick.”
So, Daniels should call out sick because of Carter and Davis? First, both are phenomenal players, and arguably the best defensive tackle duo in the NFL. Washington knows what it’s up against, having faced Carter and Davis over the past few years. Not only did Daniels not call out sick before, but he also passed for five touchdowns in a come-from-behind win to shock the Eagles and their No. 1-ranked defense.
As for Smith and Hunt? You mean the duo with 18 combined career sacks over five seasons?

Daniels certainly respects Carter and Davis. But from that same game, who remembers this?

Johnson said Washington’s offensive line will not only have nightmares about this matchup, but they are also having nightmares right now.
There’s no doubt that the Commanders will miss Laremy Tunsil at left tackle. And questions remain about Nick Allegretti at center. However, when you look back at that 2024 offensive line, Brandon Coleman was the left tackle, which is where he is now. Allegretti was the left guard, which Chris Paul now mans. Tyler Biadasz was the center. Washington cut him because it believed Allegretti was better. Sam Cosmi remains the right guard, while Josh Conerly is the right tackle, a role Andrew Wylie held in 2024.

On paper, this matchup certainly favors the Eagles. However, there is no one in Washington’s locker room fearing this matchup. In fact, most are embracing it, especially after hearing for the past several weeks how bad they’re going to be.
No surprise, Philadelphia is favored, but there's a reason they play the game.
