Washington Commanders right guard Sam Cosmi is one of the NFL’s best at his position. Just ask Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter. In two matchups this season, Cosmi has completely shut down Philadelphia’s young star defender.
On Sunday, Cosmi will face a different kind of challenge. The Commanders host the Los Angeles Rams, so Cosmi will face future Hall of Fame defensive tackle Aaron Donald. A three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, 10-time Pro Bowler and 8-time first-team All-Pro, Donald returned to the Rams in 2026 after being retired for the previous two seasons.
Cosmi knows what’s ahead, but he’s embracing the challenge. He’s not preparing any differently, despite the opposition.
“I’m just going to play my game for the most part; I try
not to let that be a verdict going into the game, raising my game; I try to keep it as an elite standpoint,” Cosmi said, referring to Donald’s legendary status. ” He’s going to get my best; I am sure we’re going to get his best. It’s just kinda how it is. From a standpoint like that, I’m going to treat it like any other game.”

Cosmi then gave a detailed scouting report on what makes Donald great. Then Cosmi made sure everyone knew his focus for this week's game.
“My job is to tame during the game and do that, so that’s the goal for this week.”
It should be fun.
