Especially after Terry McLaurin’s injury, the Washington Commanders could use a wide receiver. The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 10, giving the Commanders time to decide which wide receiver to acquire. According to ESPN, there are three receivers who have a chance of being traded that could fit with the Commanders.
The first is Jerry Jeudy with the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland has a lot of mouths to feed with two rookie receivers who are playing incredibly well, Denzel Boston and KC Concepcion, as well as tight end Harold Fannin Jr., who was a rookie in 2025. Between the three of them, there does not seem to be a lot of room for Jeudy, who is fourth on the team in receiving yards.
The Broncos selected Jeudy with a first-round pick in 2020. He was
a solid receiver, but never elite. He was traded to Cleveland with the intention that he would become the Browns’ primary receiver. That is no longer his purpose with the talent the Browns have acquired in the trade over the past two years, making him a perfect trade candidate. Still, ESPN gives him just a 20 percent chance of getting traded. They are also concerned about his inconsistency throughout his NFL career, saying:
“Jeudy has the route traits and stop-start speed to separate as a multilevel route runner. He's sudden at the break point. However, the inconsistent hands have been an issue as a pro (33 career drops), and Jeudy lacks the frame and physicality to win on 50-50 throws. Jeudy had a career-best 1,229 receiving yards in 2024, yet he has just 16 receptions this season.”
A better option might be Rashod Bateman with the Baltimore Ravens. Bateman is a talented receiver and had a breakout game in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints. However, he has gotten little action since and does not seem to have a place in this offense. ESPN lists Washington as the best fit for Bateman, saying:
“Bateman fits as a perimeter target with separation speed and ball-tracking ability to win on third-level throws and in-breakers. He can be re-routed, and he isn't a contested-catch specialist, but he fits as a No. 3 target with the ability to play Z or X. Bateman has 16 touchdown receptions in his career.”
A final candidate for the Commanders to pursue is Chris Godwin with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, this seems like the most unlikely scenario. Godwin has a history of injury issues and is 30 years old. Washington already has two receivers over 30, McLaurin and Stefon Diggs, and likely wants someone younger with the potential for a longer career. Also, the last thing the Commanders need is another injury-prone player, given their injury woes this season.
