What is the story about?
On
Sunday at 6 p.m. ET, all 32 NFL teams had to reduce their rosters to 53 players.
Sunday, the Commanders released 14 defensive players. Here are those released and a quick reason why. Note: the Commanders had already released four defensive players on Saturday.
*Note: Dorance Armstrong will not count against the Commanders’ 53-man roster. He will be on the reserve suspended list for Week 1.
Which defensive players did the Commanders release?
- DT Byron Cowart: Late signing, played well against the Lions, may be brought back.
- DT Shy Tuttle: Once IR moves are made, Tuttle will be back on the 53.
- CB Fabian Moreau: Vested veteran; not subject to waivers, back on the 53 soon after an IR move.
- CB Car’lin Vigers: Has shown some development; if he clears waivers, he returns to the practice squad.
- LB Ale Kaho: Lost to Kain Medrano (special teams); They like Kaho; hope to have him back on the practice squad.
- DT Maurice Hurst II: Don’t rule out just yet; might bring back with IR move.
- CB Antonio Hamilton Sr.: Age 33; has tremendous attitude they like; might have him again.
- CB Fred Davis II: Raw, needs development, might return to practice squad.
- CB Darius Rush: They really hoped for more than he delivered in preseason.
- OLB T.J. Maguranyanga: Displayed development; could be brought back to the practice squad.
- LB Krys Barnes: He was depth during preseason, wasn’t expected to make the roster.
- LB Curtis Jacobs: The final spot came down to Medrano vs Kaho; Jacobs wasn’t going to make the team.
- S Quindell Johnson: Very crowded room; simply wasn’t going to make it.
- DT Jeffrey M’Ba: With his size, could be brought back to the practice squad to be a reserve NT.
