The Washington Commanders (1-3-1) wrap up Week 6 on Monday night against the undefeated San Francisco 49ers (5-0). If the Commanders lose to the 49ers—and they are 7.5-point underdogs—it would be the second straight weekend that all four NFC East teams went winless.
On Sunday, here’s what happened around the NFC East:
- New York Giants: lost 34-27 to the New Orleans Saints
- Philadelphia Eagles : lost 25-14 to the Carolina Panthers
- Dallas Cowboys: lost 23-13 to the Green Bay Packers
As of Monday morning, the Giants still sit atop the division with a 3-2-1 record after six weeks. If the Commanders upset San Francisco, they’d be one game back with 11 games remaining. However, if Washington loses, the NFC East would be the first division since the merger in which every team plays back-to-back weeks, and none wins, per Josh Dubow of the Associated Press.
If Cowboys don't come back tonight and Commanders lose tomorrow,
the NFC East would be 1st division since the merger with every team playing in back to back weeks and none of them winning

Here’s a current look at the NFC East standings:
- Giants: 3-2-1
- Eagles: 2-4
- Cowboys: 2-4
- Commanders: 1-3-1
A win would move Washington into second place and one game behind New York.
Can the Commanders pull off the upset? It will be difficult. The 49ers are firing on all cylinders and rank among the NFL’s best on offense and defense. Quarterback Brock Purdy is playing at an MVP level early this season, and Washington’s defense has struggled to slow opposing passing games.
The Commanders have a shot at beating the 49ers. Why? Because Jayden Daniels is under center. Terry McLaurin will also play, and there’s a good chance that Stefon Diggs plays, too. Outside of starting running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Washington could have its full complement of offensive weapons on the field together for the first time since Week 1.
