The Washington Commanders will honor two franchise legends during halftime of the Week 3 home opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
The Commanders revealed on Tuesday that Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Sonny Jurgensen and linebacker Monte Coleman will be honored during the Sept. 27 game against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.
Jurgensen, an 18-year NFL veteran, played his final 11 seasons with the Redskins and later joined the franchise’s radio broadcasts with the legendary Frank Herzog and fellow Hall of Famer Sam Huff. The Commanders retired Jurgensen’s No. 9 in 2022. He passed away on Feb. 6 at the age of 91.

Coleman,
an 11th-round pick of the Redskins in the 1979 NFL Draft, played 16 seasons in the burgundy and gold, retiring after the 1994 season. Coleman appeared in 215 games, including 62 starts, recording 1,002 tackles, 49.5 sacks, 17 interceptions and 13 forced fumbles. Coleman also appeared in 21 playoff games, where he had 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. He was a member of all three Super Bowl championship teams and was named one of the 80 greatest players in Washington’s franchise history. He’s also a member of the team’s Ring of Fame.
Coleman died on April 26.
The Commanders open the season on the road with games at Philadelphia and Dallas before returning home to host the Seahawks on Sept. 27.
