It is only the third week of the NFL season, and the Washington Commanders have already dealt with a rash of injuries. The latest injury was to linebacker Leo Chenal, whom the Commanders signed in free agency back in March.
Chenal suffered a neck injury during Washington’s 33-31 win over the Seattle Seahawks and was carted off the field. Head coach Dan Quinn provided an update on Chenal, saying that he is in the hospital and has feeling in his extremities.
“Got to the hospital. Does have feeling in his extremities, undergoing further testing as we go through tonight,” Quinn said. “But, we’re definitely thinking of him. He’s a great teammate. We love him. So, you know, anytime a guy gets banged up like that, and you’re just thinking of him in full
form as much as you can.”
In other injury news, Quinn also revealed that safety Percy Butler is in concussion protocol. Prior to their injuries, Chenal had three tackles, including a tackle for loss, while Butler had four tackles, including three solo tackles. Both players’ availability is now in question for Washington’s next game against the Indianapolis Colts as they try to get to 2-2.
Washington was already thin at linebacker, with starter Frankie Luvu out the last two games with a hamstring injury and top backup Jordan Magee on injured reserve for at least four weeks.
