The Washington Commanders will be missing two key starters in Sunday’s NFC East matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. Washington head coach Dan Quinn said on Friday that linebacker Frankie Luvu and tight end Chig Okonkwo would miss Sunday’s game.
“Frankie and Chig weren’t able to make it back this week,” Quinn said. “Guys are working hard. We’ll see what it looks like for next week. So, I wanted to give you all the info I have before we get rolling.”
Washington won’t be the only team missing two starters. On Friday, the Cowboys ruled out safety Malik Hooker and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.
In their season-opening loss to the New York Jets, Overshown injured his hamstring and did not return. The fourth-year linebacker has dealt with multiple injuries
since entering the NFL in 2023, including two torn ACLs. Overshown was one of the Cowboys’ starting linebackers and wore the green dot, which is the player who communicates with the coaching staff before every play.
Hooker will miss Sunday’s game with a fractured forearm. The starter at free safety will likely be P.J. Locke, but rookie first-round pick Caleb Downs could also figure into the mix. Hooker has been with Dallas since 2021, appearing in 77 games and making 54 starts.
Dallas, much like Washington, has a first-year defensive coordinator. Christian Parker’s NFL debut as defensive coordinator didn’t go so well, but he looks to get back on track this week against the Commanders’ first-year offensive coordinator, David Blough.
