The Washington Commanders made some roster moves on Tuesday. Some were expected; one was less so. The Commanders placed running back Jeremy McNichols on injured reserve. McNichols, who began the season on IR with a quad injury, returned in Week 6, played in two games, but injured his foot in Sunday's win over the Eagles.
“Yes. So, he does have a midfoot injury,” head coach Dan Quinn said. “I’m concerned it’s serious. They’re gonna do some more scans as we get through tomorrow. But it’s enough that we’re concerned today. I’ll give you an update as it goes to Wednesday, but it’s something that the team for sure is concerned with.”
Next, defensive tackle Daron Payne headed to IR. The longtime starter suffered a Jones fracture in his foot during Friday’s
practice, which will knock him out for the remainder of the season. Entering this season, Payne had only missed three career games in nine seasons.
The most surprising move was fellow starting defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw. Kinlaw suffered a knee injury in the Week 6 game at San Francisco. Last week, Quinn didn’t specify how serious Kinlaw’s injury was, but implied he wouldn’t play in Week 8 against the Eagles. Now, the Commanders will lose him for at least four games.

With Payne and Kinlaw out, Washington used a defensive line rotation of Shy Tuttle, Tim Settle, Charles Omenihu, Deatrich Wise and Byron Cowart. The Commanders shut down Philadelphia’s offense, including running back Saquon Barkley.
Things will be much tougher in Week 9, when the Los Angeles Rams and quarterback Matthew Stafford come to town.
Washington has yet to announce any corresponding moves to fill those roster spots.
