Jayden Daniels was officially weighed in at 210 pounds in March 2024 during his LSU Pro Day.
It's been 2.5 years; Daniels is still awfully lean, and his injury Sunday against the Cowboys was a play that now has fans asking if the Commanders will/can offer him a huge contract extension.
Former quarterback and NFL head coach Jay Gruden was a guest on Grant & Danny Monday on 106.7 the Fan. Gruden faced the reality Monday that Daniels was injured for a fifth game he did not finish. "It is something that people have to keep their eye on,” the former Washington Redskins head coach said. “Are you going to give this guy the franchise keys to the car and you’re not sure he can play more than four games a year?”
“It’s something; it’s a major concern. That
was a concern of his coming out (of LSU). Everybody knew he was talented, but it’s the frame that he has. Everybody was concerned about his ability to stay healthy. And I said, No, he’s too good of an athlete. He can avoid the hits.”
Gruden wanted to make sure to point out that this wasn’t even an issue of taking a big hit on Sunday. “He fell down and landed funny (awkwardly). It’s not like he got tattooed in the pocket, or was running for a first down and was hit by a safety in the face. This is just an accident.”
“I don’t know what the answer is; I wish I did. I think once he’s ready to go, you gotta get him back in there, and see what he can do and finish the season off.”
But of course there will be various options presented to Daniels regarding playing this season, not returning and having surgery. Daniels will meet with some specialists this week, according to Dan Quinn, who spoke to the media Monday.
