Johnny Newton is returning this Sunday.
The Washington Commanders announced Saturday that the third-year defensive tackle is activated for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams at Northwest Stadium at 1 p.m. ET. In addition, the Commanders placed wide receiver Dyami Brown on injured reserve and are elevating rookie wide receiver Jaden Bradley from the practice squad.
We have made the following roster moves:

Brown returned to the Commanders, signing a one-year prove-it deal in March, after fleeing to the Jacksonville
Jaguars following the 2024 season. It just hasn’t worked out well for Brown. On the other hand, he did catch a touchdown against the Cowboys in Week 2, and officials inexcusably refused to rule it a touchdown. Other than that, Brown has been ineffective and has made little to no impact. Brown is an impactful blocker for Washington.
Newton tore a pectoral muscle in the preseason against the Dolphins and is returning after his 21-day practice window opened two weeks ago. Newton was the 36th overall selection of the 2024 NFL Draft and has also disappointed. The third-year defensive tackle from Illinois really needs to step up and contribute in this new defensive system under new defensive coordinator Daronte Jones.
Bradley flashed more than once in the preseason. Yes, virtually every NFL team keeps a receiver on their practice squad who flashed in the preseason. Nonetheless, with Terry McLaurin and Dyami Brown now on injured reserve, and Treylon Burks also out for this game, this could be an important opportunity for Bradley to contribute to his career. Brown will miss the games from Week 9 through Week 12 and will be eligible to return for the Week 13 game.
