The Washington Commanders open the 2026 season today at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, where they'll face the two-time defending NFC East champion Eagles.
The Eagles head into Sunday’s game as 5.5-point favorites, and that line has remained consistent throughout the week. Philadelphia will be without linebacker Jonathan Greenard, but is otherwise healthy. Every player on Washington’s injury report will play on Sunday. The Commanders, of course, did lose left tackle Laremy Tunsil to a torn triceps last month, meaning Brandon Coleman will start at left tackle. Coleman has started five games against the Eagles in his two NFL seasons.

We canvassed different NFL experts and the Eagles are an overwhelming pick.
All 11 of ESPN’s experts picked Philadelphia, including Matt Bowen, Mike Clay and Jeremy Fowler.
The same goes for CBS’ panel of experts, although Dave Richard was the only one of seven analysts to pick the Commanders.
NFL Pickwatch, which collects expert picks from almost every outlet, has a whopping 98% of picks made in favor of Philadelphia. Back in 2022, the Eagles were undefeated and faced the Commanders. Philly was at home, and 99% of the experts picked the Eagles. Guess who won that one?
Don't count out the Commanders. Anything can happen in the NFL, especially in Week 1.
