Texas A&M has filled the final opening on its 2027 football schedule by adding a first-time opponent to its home slate.
The Aggies will host Texas Southern at Kyle Field on Oct. 16, 2027, according to a game contract obtained by FBSchedules.com. Texas A&M will pay the Tigers a $550,000 guarantee for the game. Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts also confirmed the addition to Aggie Yell’s Carter Karels. The matchup replaces A&M’s previously scheduled home game against New Mexico, which was canceled in May.
The Aggies were able to terminate the New Mexico agreement without paying a penalty. New Mexico later filled that opening by scheduling a road game against Texas Tech.
Adding Texas Southern gives A&M three nonconference games in 2027, the second
year of the SEC’s nine-game conference schedule. The Aggies will open the season at home against Texas State on Sept. 4 before traveling to face Arizona State on Sept. 11. Dates remain subject to change.
The October matchup will be the first meeting between Texas A&M and Texas Southern. The Tigers compete at the FCS level as a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They will become only the second SWAC program to face the Aggies, joining Prairie View A&M.
The SEC has already announced A&M’s conference opponents for the 2027 season. Georgia, LSU, Missouri, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt will visit Kyle Field, while the Aggies will travel to Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State and Texas.
