Texas A&M’sfirst road game made the problems from its loss to Kentucky look even more serious. The Aggies managed just 197 yards and failed to score a touchdown in a 35-6 loss at LSU. They are now 2-2 overall and 0-2 in SEC play after entering the season hoping to return to the College Football Playoff.
The offense has struggled to finish drives, while the defense has allowed more than 400 yards in each of its first two conference games. A&M has eight games left to turn things around, starting with Arkansas at Kyle Field. After what happened in Baton Rouge, though, even the games that once looked manageable deserve a closer look.
Several future opponents also had rough weekends. Missouri lost its first game at Mississippi State, Oklahoma was beaten
soundly at Georgia, and South Carolina struggled against Alabama. Arkansas picked up a convincing win over Tulsa, Alabama remained unbeaten, and Texas held off Tennessee on the road. Those results shuffled the middle of the list, while LSU moved up after Saturday’s game.
Here is an updated ranking of Texas A&M’s eight remaining opponents from easiest to toughest heading into Week 5.
8. Texas A&M vs. Citadel - Week 7
2026 record: 1-3
Analysis: The Citadel fell 27-8 to Chattanooga and has lost three straight since opening the season with a win over Charlotte. Even with A&M’s recent struggles, the Bulldogs remain the most manageable opponent on the schedule.
7. Texas A&M vs. Arkansas - Week 5
2026 record: 2-2
Analysis: Arkansas bounced back from blowout losses to Utah and Georgia with a 34-6 win over Tulsa. KJ Jackson threw for 309 yards, and Chris Marshall gave the Razorbacks a passing threat A&M’s secondary cannot ignore. This game looks less comfortable for the Aggies after the last two weeks, though Arkansas still has to prove it can produce that kind of performance against an SEC opponent.
6. Texas A&M @ South Carolina - Week 10
2026 record: 2-2
Analysis: South Carolina followed its loss to Mississippi State with a 49-18 defeat at Alabama. The Gamecocks have now allowed 90 points over two games, but a November trip to Williams-Brice Stadium keeps this above the Arkansas matchup.
5. Texas A&M @ Oklahoma - Week 12
2025 final record: 2-2
Analysis: Oklahoma’s offense continued to have trouble against stronger competition in a 41-13 loss at Georgia. John Mateer threw an interception and fumbled twice. The Sooners have not looked like a top SEC contender, but winning in Norman late in the season will still be difficult for A&M.
4. Texas A&M @ Missouri - Week 6
2026 record: 3-1
Analysis: Missouri took its first loss, falling 31-24 at Mississippi State. That result brings the Tigers closer to Oklahoma than they were last week, but their stronger start and home-field advantage keep the trip to Columbia among A&M’s tougher remaining games.
3. Texas A&M vs. Tennessee - Week 11
2026 record: 3-1
Analysis: Tennessee lost 20-17 to No. 1 Texas, but pushing the Longhorns to the finish did little to diminish the Volunteers. A&M gets this game at Kyle Field, which is why I rank it below the trips to Alabama and the season finale against Texas.
2. Texas A&M @ Alabama - Week 8
2026 record: 4-0
Analysis: Alabama had little trouble with South Carolina, winning 49-18 to remain undefeated. The Crimson Tide have shown they can score quickly, and A&M’s recent coverage problems make a trip to Tuscaloosa an especially difficult assignment.
1. Texas A&M vs. Texas - Week 13
2026 record: 4-0
Analysis: Texas survived its first road test with a 20-17 win at Tennessee and remains unbeaten. The Longhorns are still the toughest team left on A&M’s schedule. Kyle Field should give the Aggies a lift in the rivalry game, but they have a lot to fix before that advantage is likely to matter.
