No. 23 Texas A&M (2-1, 0-2 SEC) is still licking its wounds after falling to Kentucky at home 31-21 in Week 3, and while the Aggie fan base is still reeling, third-year coach Mike Elko and starting quarterback Marcel Reed, who both took much of the blame hours after the loss, have turned the page and are now focused on Saturday's primetime showdown vs. LSU in Baton Rouge.
While the season won't technically be over if the Aggies fall to LSU for the first time since 2023, sitting at 2-2 and 0-2 in SEC play is nowhere near ideal. Mike Elko praised his team's efforts in practice this week and further defended Marcel Reed, who, for those who may have forgotten, is the fifth-winningest quarterback in Texas A&M history.
Still, Reed must play better,
make the easy throws he missed against Kentucky, and use his legs more after rushing for 100-plus yards against the Tigers in a 49-25 win over LSU. On Thursday, it was revealed that the Aggies will wear one of the more popular jersey combinations: white helmets, maroon jerseys, and maroon pants for the first time A&M has faced Arkansas during the 2024 season.
This article will more than likely receive fans saying, "who cares," after A&M's loss to Kentucky, but as they say, if you dress well, you feel great and usually play with confidence, which the Aggies need in doses. On paper, Texas A&M's defensive line must do a better job pressuring the pocket and forcing QB Sam Leavitt to make quick decisions, while the Aggies must sustain long drives and run the ball.
