Texas A&M's College Football Playoff dreams all but ended after Saturday night's 35-6 road loss to LSU, as the Aggies' downward spiral has reached unacceptable levels during coach Mike Elko's third season, especially given the level of talent on the roster, while starting quarterback Marcel Reed's 106 passing yards against the Tigers weren't just shocking but telling.
While the Aggie fan base has all but given up on the program's chances of rebounding after losses to Kentucky and LSU, the season will continue, starting with a home game against Arkansas on Saturday night. The Aggies enter Week 5 as a 14-point favorite against the Razorbacks, which is confusing given the team's poor play on both sides of the ball, but it's now or never for a team that
entered the year hoping to return to the CFP.
Will Texas A&M even reach bowl eligibility? That remains to be seen, especially with one of the toughest second-half schedules in the country, and while Marcel Reed deserves most of the blame for his poor play, Texas A&M's defense has been equally bad.
If, and that's a big if, Texas A&M wins six or more games this season, On3's Brett McMurphy still believes the Aggies will earn a bid to the Music City Bowl, now predicted to face Michigan, who hasn't looked as bad as A&M but is equally disappointing. At 2-2 and 0-2 in SEC play, the pressure will keep mounting on Mike Elko if things don't turn around.
