Former Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion provided an encouraging update after suffering a concussion during the Cleveland Browns’ 17-12 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday.
Concepcion was injured late in the first quarter when Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit as the rookie attempted to make a catch. He stayed on the field for several minutes before walking to the locker room on his own. Fitzpatrick was penalized for hitting a defenseless receiver, and Cleveland quickly ruled Concepcion out with a head injury.
Browns head coach Todd Monkensaid Concepcion was doing well when he saw him after the game.
“I saw him after the game. He was in good spirits. I don’t know exactly what the rules are, but he did miss the game. I would
assume he is in concussion protocol.”
Quarterback Deshaun Watson also said Concepcion was doing well and acknowledged that the rookie had been an important part of Cleveland’s game plan.
Concepcion later addressed the concern by posting a picture on his Instagram story with a short message.
“Y’all know I’m good thanks to the lord and savior.”
The update is encouraging after a frightening moment, but Concepcion will still have to complete the NFL’s concussion protocol before returning. No recovery timeline is guaranteed, and his practice participation will better indicate his availability for Cleveland’s next game.
