No. 8 Texas A&M heads into SEC play at 2-0 after defeating Missouri State 50-0 and Arizona State 48-20 over the last two weeks, set to host Kentucky (1-1) after the Wildcats fell to Alabama at home 45-17. This week, coach Mike Elko discussed the need to be more consistent on offense, starting with better blocking upfront, especially in the run game.
On paper, Texas A&M is a 16-point favorite for a reason, possessing more depth on both sides of the ball, while Kentucky coach Will Stein is looking to establish himself as one of the up-and-coming first-year head coaches in the SEC, hoping to secure several upsets in conference play. Still, this will be the Aggies' game to lose after scoring 24 points in the fourth quarter to secure last Saturday's
48-20 win over ASU.
It's fair to say Texas A&M's offense has failed to live up to the preseason hype; even though starting quarterback Marcel Reed has improved as a passer, the lack of a consistent run game and just three explosive 20-plus-yard plays must improve this weekend.
On Thursday, one question was answered before Saturday's game: the Aggies will don the all-maroon look from helmet, jersey, and pants, while Kentucky will go all-white to avoid a color clash.
