Texas A&M needed a response after consecutive SEC losses, and kicker David Olano played an important role in Saturday’s 34-7 victory over Arkansas.
Olano made both of his field-goal attempts, connecting from 57 and 50 yards. His career-long 57-yarder came as time expired in the first half and gave the Aggies a 24-7 advantage heading into the locker room.
The graduate transfer has quietly become one of college football's most consistent kickers. According to TexAgs analyst Luke Evangelist, Olano is the only kicker nationally who has attempted at least seven field goals and 19 extra points without a miss while also making three field goals from 50 yards or longer.
Olano is now 7-for-7 on field goals and 19-for-19 on extra points through five games.
His three makes from at least 50 yards have come against LSU and Arkansas. He connected from 53 yards in Baton Rouge before making both of his long-distance attempts against the Razorbacks.
His 57-yard field goal was also the longest by a Texas A&M kicker since Terrence Kitchens made a 62-yarder against Southern Miss in 1999.
Olano arrived in College Station after spending three seasons at Illinois, where he earned All-Big Ten honorable mention recognition in 2024 and 2025. He entered the season on the Lou Groza Award watch list after making 37 of his 43 career field-goal attempts.
Texas A&M’s offense looked much better against Arkansas, but having a kicker capable of consistently converting from beyond 50 yards gives the Aggies another way to finish drives. Olano has yet to miss in an A&M uniform, and Saturday showed his range can become a legitimate weapon as the schedule gets tougher.
