Freshman libero Gabi Rodriguez has been a steady presence in the back row for Texas A&M through a difficult nonconference schedule. She carried that form into SEC play, and the league recognized her work Monday.
Rodriguez was named SEC Freshman of the Week after helping the Aggies sweep Rice and South Carolina
. It is her first career SEC weekly award and the first for an A&M freshman since Logan Lednicky earned the honor in 2022.Sunday’s sweep showed what her work in the back row can do for the rest of the team. A&M hit a season-best .385 against South Carolina, and Taryn Morris put together a career performance with 15 kills and no attack errors. Rodriguez’s passing helped give setter Kirra Musgrove opportunities to run the offense throughout
the match.

Texas A&M’s Gabi Rodriguez, a libero from McKinney, Texas, averaged 4.17 digs per set over two wins this past week for the Aggies. Rodriguez opened the week with 14 digs, four assists and one ace in the sweep over Rice on Tuesday. In Sunday’s sweep against South Carolina, she added 11 digs and five assists in her SEC debut.

Rodriguez and the Aggies remain at Reed Arena this weekend. They host Alabama on Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT and Mississippi State on Sunday at noon.
