Texas A&M's offense has been a consistent question mark through nearly all seven games this season, led by redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed's surprising regression after his career year in 2025, and despite scoring just six points in blowout road losses to Missouri and LSU, third-year coach Mike Elko has opted to start Marcel Reed, likely for the rest of the season.
I can't speak for a majority of the Aggie fan base, but through seven games, Marcel Reed's 1,227 yards, seven touchdowns, and six interceptions, completing 55.7% of his passes, have led to cries for sophomore backup quarterback Brady Hart to receive more playing time, which was granted during all but several snaps in the second half of Saturday's game.
A former four-star prospect
and Michigan commitment flip, Brady Hart has natural arm talent but lacks the accuracy and touch to take over and produce against SEC-level defenses at this stage. While the comparison to Marcel Reed's conference play is valid, Pro Football Focus's numbers will also frustrate fans.
Per PFF, Marcel Reed finished the game 8/13 for 130 yards and a touchdown, earning an average 64.8 offensive grade and 65.5 clean pocket, 58.9 under pressure. Brady Hart finished 8/12 for 107 yards and a touchdown pass, with an impressive 83.5 offensive grade and 90.2 clean pocket, 63.2 under pressure.
Equally average to bad under pressure, the clean pocket difference will drive more fans to want Brady Hart to start the rest of the way, but his lack of experience against SEC defenses compared to Marcel Reed will always play a significant role in Mike Elko's decision.
Marcel Reed is fully expected to start against Alabama on Saturday, but if his accuracy issues and decision-making issues continue, Brady Hart will be waiting in the wings.
