Former Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion has taken an encouraging step in his recovery from the concussion he suffered during Cleveland’s loss to the New York Jets.
Concepcion returned to practice Wednesday, three days after leaving the game following a hard hit during the first quarter. He was also a limited participant Thursday, according to the Browns’ official injury report, giving him an opportunity to play against Baltimore on Sunday.
The rookie has not yet been cleared. Concepcion remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol and will need clearance from an independent neurological consultant before returning. Cleveland’s final injury report Friday should better indicate his availability.
Concepcion caught one pass for five yards before leaving
the 17-12 loss to New York. He remained on the field for several moments after the hit before walking off with assistance and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game.
Seeing him return to practice this early in the week is a positive development, but the Browns will not rush the process. Head coach Todd Monken said Wednesday that Cleveland was not prepared to rule any injured player in or out and would evaluate their progress throughout the week.
The former Aggie has become part of Cleveland’s receiver rotation during his first NFL season. Concepcion has caught 18 passes for 149 yards through five games, giving the Browns another option who can create yards after the catch and contribute as a returner.
His status will be worth monitoring through Saturday. If Concepcion clears the remaining steps, he could return when Cleveland hosts the Ravens on Sunday.
