Texas A&M's basketball program enters its second season under head coach Bucky McMillan
, who led the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament in March, and is not just hoping to return to the tournament but to reach the Elite Eight for the first time in program history. Returning players and an influx of transfer portal talent, led by former Kansas State guard PJ Haggerty, make these high preseason expectations possible.During his one-and-only season with the Wildcats, Haggerty averaged 23.4 points per game, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, and the Crosby, Texas native has returned home and will likely lead the Aggies in scoring during his one season in College Station.
With six fellow transfer portal additions and forwards Mackenzie Mgbako and Zach Clemence,
Texas A&M's roster isn't lacking NBA-level talent, and transfer forward Jalen Shelley is also an intriguing player to watch and is on track to earn a starting role.
However, in a loaded SEC, Texas A&M was picked to finish 9th in the conference, while PJ Haggerty was the lone Aggie named to the All-SEC Third Team, which makes sense given his newcomer status and his importance to the program's chances of reaching its postseason goals.
Texas A&M will open the 2026-2027 season up against Alabama State in Reed Arena on Tuesday, November 3.
