No. 9 Texas A&M took care of business in Week 1 after blowing out Missouri State 50-0 for the program's largest shutout since 1997. Entering Week 2, the Aggies will host Arizona State (1-0), facing the Sun Devils for the first time since 2015. After defeating Morgan State 70-7, it's clear that coach Kenny Dillingham's new roster has the ability to score in bunches.
This week, third-year coach Mike Elko was in regular form, praising his team when warranted, while also answering several key questions regarding the Aggies' four new starting offensive linemen, who struggled in the first half of Saturday's game but rebounded after halftime and paved the way for 150 of the team's 236 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Starting quarterback Marcel Reed,
who completed 70% of his passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns, looked poised in the pocket while making several impressive throws, and transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton reeled in 4 receptions for 76 yards and his first touchdown as an Aggie.
All in all, shutting any team out 50-0 is significant, but Arizona State is a whole different animal, especially after Kentucky transfer quarterback Cutter Boley threw for a career-high 387 yards and six touchdowns. The Sun Devils' clear weakness is in the trenches, which A&M's defensive line should be able to take advantage of from the jump.
