No. 8 Texas A&M (2-0) will host Kentucky (1-1) for the first time since 2018, as the Aggies look to kick off SEC play 1-0 after blowing out Missouri State 50-0 and Arizona State 48-20 to start the 2026 season. The Wildcats, despite playing competitive football early, fell to Alabama 45-17 at home, even after holding a late lead.
Texas A&M is the better overall team on paper, but SEC play is a whole different animal, especially when deep into the season. Health is everything, and the Aggies entered the 2026 season relatively healthy but have already lost several players, including running back Tiger Riden, freshman wide receiver Madden Williams, and freshman defensive lineman Chace Sims.
Senior linebacker Daymion Sanford, who suffered a fibula
injury during the Maroon & White spring game, recovered much faster than expected. While he fully participated in the preseason, the Katy (TX) native has not appeared this season but could return this Saturday.
On Wednesday, the first SEC availability reportwas released, listing four players as "questionable" with a 50% chance to play Saturday: running back Jamarion Morrow and wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman, Edge Anto Saka, and wide receiver/special teams ace TK Norman. The injury update did not list transfer safety Tawfiq Byard, who is expected to make his Texas A&M debut on Saturday.
Regarding Daymion Sanford, Mike Elko said Monday that he is thankful for the linebacker room's depth but didn't provide a timetable for his return, which, at the latest, would likely be against LSU in Baton Rouge next Saturday night. All four players listed as questionable are expected to play, and we will provide updates during our live coverage on Saturday afternoon.
On Thursday, the latest SEC availability report revealed that Jamarion Morrow and Ashton Bethel-Roman remain questionable, while Anto Saka and TK Norman are now listed as probable with a 75% chance to play on Saturday.
