The time is now for Texas A&M to prove that last Saturday's 31-21 home loss to Kentucky was simply a poor performance that doesn't reflect the Aggies' talent level, while starting quarterback Marcel Reed, who threw two interceptions in the loss, is also hoping to change the narrative surrounding his ability to lead the offense to greater heights.
Set to face LSU in Baton Rouge for the second straight season, the widespread expectation is that the Aggies will lose by double digits or make it a close game until the Tigers pull away late. After blowing out LSU 49-25 last season, first-year coach Lane Kiffin and his reported $40 million roster will look for vengeance and hope to bounce back after falling to Ole Miss on the road in Week 3.
Both teams
are 2-1 and 0-1 in SEC play, and while playing desperate football has helped teams pull off road victories, defeating LSU in Baton Rouge two consecutive seasons is almost unheard of, but coach Mike Elko hopes to destroy that narrative.
Before his weekly appearance on the Aggie Football Hour, Elko said getting "back to work" and ignoring the outside narrative is key to proving last Saturday's loss was simply a hiccup.
"You go back to work. It's how you prepare. It's what you do during the week in practice."
"Your ability to go back to work and commit to the process is what it takes to find success. We're excited to get out there on Saturday and prove that wasn't us last week."
It's understandable why the Aggie fan base is frustrated, feeling like the Kentucky loss defines the Aggies this season. The only way to change that? Defeat LSU this weekend and head into next Saturday's primetime home matchup vs. Arkansas with momentum.
