Texas A&M soccer freshman forward Ireland Churchill capped an impressive debut season by earning three Southeastern Conference postseason honors, including SEC Freshman of the Year.
The conference announced its annual awards Thursday, naming Churchill to the All-SEC First Team and SEC All-Freshman Team in addition to recognizing her as the league's top freshman. Churchill joins Barbara Olivieri, who received the award in 2020, as the only Texas A&M players to earn SEC Freshman of the Year honors since the Aggies joined the conference.
The Eastvale, California, native finished her first collegiate season with 13 goals and four assists for 30 points, leading all freshmen nationally in goals and ranking second in points. Her 13 goals also placed
her fifth on Texas A&M's freshman single-season scoring list.
Churchill became the first Aggie freshman to reach double-digit goals since Liz Keester in 2013, providing a consistent offensive threat throughout the season. Eight of her 13 goals came against SEC opponents, highlighted by four multi-goal performances in conference play. She also became the first Texas A&M freshman to score multiple goals in three consecutive matches.
Her season ended on a high note during the Aggies' 5-1 victory over Ole Miss, when she recorded two goals and an assist. The performance earned Churchill SEC Freshman of the Week honors earlier this week. Despite Churchill's individual success, Texas A&M endured a difficult first season under head coach Bobby Shuttleworth, finishing 5-11-1 overall and 1-8-1 in SEC competition.
However, Churchill's emergence gives the Aggies a promising offensive centerpiece as they look to improve heading into the 2027 season. Texas A&M's official soccer account celebrated her three awards Thursday, highlighting one of the conference's most productive freshmen.
