On a night when the No. 19 Texas A&M volleyball team dropped a hard-fought battle against No. 6 Wisconsin, junior middle blocker Kaia Castle turned in a career performance in front of a rowdy crowd at Reed Arena.
The 6-foot-4 Ohio State transfer put in work against a Wisconsin front line that controlled the net throughout the match. The Badgers finished with 17 team blocks, while the Aggies were charged with 28 attack errors overall.
Why bring that up? Because it makes Castle’s performance even more impressive when put into context.
Castle recorded a career-high 19 kills without committing an attack error across 33 attempts, finishing with a .576 hitting percentage. She accounted for 19 of A&M’s 69 kills and remained efficient during a match in which
several of her teammates struggled to consistently get through or around Wisconsin’s block.
Before Friday night's match, Castle’s career high was 12 kills, a mark she reached twice while playing for Ohio State in 2025. She matched that total earlier this week during A&M’s four-set victory over No. 4 Stanford before blowing past it against the Badgers.
Texas A&M took the opening set 25-18 before Wisconsin responded with a 25-23 win in the second. The Aggies regained the lead by taking the third set 25-23, but the Badgers forced a decisive fifth with a 25-22 win in the fourth. Wisconsin ultimately closed out the match with a 15-11 victory in the final set.
Castle’s career night was not enough to finish off Wisconsin, but her emergence as another reliable offensive threat could pay off in the long run. Her performance gave Texas A&M another encouraging development as the Aggies work through one of the most challenging nonconference schedules in the country.
The Aggies will return to action Tuesday at 6 p.m. when they host SFA at Reed Arena.
