Kyndal Stowers continued her productive start to SEC play Sunday, even though No. 12 Texas A&M couldn't finish its road trip with a win.
Stowers recorded 20 kills and 12 digs in the Aggies’ four-set loss to Arkansas, giving her a fifth double-double of the season. She also finished with two service aces, two blocks and a .351 hitting percentage. It was her second consecutive match with at least 20 kills and the fifth time she has reached that mark this season. Stowers also recorded 20 kills against Oklahoma on Wednesday, though A&M fell short in five sets.
Arkansas won the first two sets Sunday before Stowers helped the Aggies extend the match. She delivered late in the third set and finished the frame with a kill to secure a 25-20 victory. A&M
led early in the fourth but couldn't complete the comeback, falling 25-20, 25-17, 20-25, and 25-22.
Stowers was the only Texas A&M player to reach double-digit kills. Gabi Rodriguez helped defensively with a career-high 21 digs, but the Aggies struggled to create enough offense around their leading attacker.
The loss dropped A&M to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in SEC play after it opened the conference schedule with three consecutive victories. Both losses came on the road against Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Stowers remains a proven option for the Aggies when they need a point, but A&M will need more balance as the schedule gets tougher. The Aggies return to Reed Arena on Friday at 6 p.m. CT to face No. 5 Florida.
