Dexter Lawrence loves playing for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Obvious, perhaps, but it’s a pretty commonly held idea that Lawrence wanted off the New York Giants, his previous team, for a variety of reasons.
Now, as Giants fans can surely attest, the mood around Lawrence has fully changed as Bengals training camp gets underway in earnest.
“I just show up every day with joy,” Lawrence said, according to Dan Hoard. “It goes fast. I’m already in year eight and I guess people can say that’s (my) prime, but I feel good and I just keep learning every day.”
Lawrence requested a trade from the Giants in April and eventually got it. Contract concerns were a part of it, but the Bengals only gave him a one-year extension added to his current deal. Organizational
and coaching staff turnover with one playoff appearance since 2017 for the Giants surely played a role, too.
Now, Lawrence is on a contender and daily providing more reason for the belief that the Bengals will be getting his best in years.
