The Cincinnati Bengals dodged a major problem with the Shemar Stewart injury.
According to Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, Stewart suffered a hyper-extended knee and will miss several weeks of camp. But Taylor classified the situation as “very fortunate,” considering how serious the Day 1 injury looked.
Stewart left the first training camp practice of the week with a serious-looking knee injury, needing a cart to leave the field and eventually sporting crutches and a protective boot in the locker room.
It’s a major win for Stewart, all things considered. His rookie year got derailed by the contract standoff and injuries, but the Bengals have remained invested and reliant on his second-year development.
So, a snafu for Stewart, not unlike those last
year. But considering how bad it looked, this early serious injury news for the Bengals classifies as a win.
