While the world focuses on whether the Cincinnati Bengals will be buyers at the NFL trade deadline, the team actually lost a player before the trip to Madrid, Spain, this week.
Thank the New York Jets, a team that decided to sign offensive lineman Blake Freeland off the Bengals’ practice squad.
It’s a pretty big loss for the practice squad and overall offensive tackle depth. The Bengals liked Freeland during the draft a few years ago and he revealed this past September that he chose the Bengals over other offers this year.
Freeland was a solid swing-tackle backup the Bengals will likely look to replace. They have Amarius Mims, Orlando Brown, Javon Foster and Myles Hinton on the active roster right now, with no offensive linemen remaining on the practice
squad.
